Why We Designed Astral Sunglasses

Astral started with a conversation between Fabián and Francisco.

We kept coming back to the same idea: performance-inspired eyewear had become part of fashion, but nothing felt like it truly belonged between both worlds.

So we built our own answer.

Unisex. Aerodynamic. Designed to be worn every day.

It Started With the Shape

Before choosing materials, we chased proportions.

The frame went through multiple silhouette studies before the final version made the cut. The bridge became narrower. The front profile became cleaner. The temple angle changed more than once.

Most of those decisions happened in millimeters, but they changed how the entire frame looked from every angle.

From Paper to Prototype

Every Astral starts as a hand sketch.

Once the proportions were locked, the design moved into a wooden prototype. Before cutting Italian acetate, we wanted to see the frame in real scale, test the curvature and understand how it felt in hand.

Some ideas looked right on paper.

They didn't all survive the prototype.

Why Italian Acetate

The material had to match the silhouette.

Astral is handcrafted from Italian acetate because it allows sharper edges, cleaner transitions and a deeper polished finish than lower-grade plastics.

It gives the frame its structure without sacrificing refinement.

Every piece is hand-finished before moving into assembly.

The Lenses

The frame and the lenses were designed together.

Astral uses nylon lenses with UV protection and CE certification, fitted to the final frame geometry instead of being adapted afterward.

That keeps the wraparound silhouette clean while maintaining lightweight everyday comfort.

The Final Details

The last stage isn't about changing the design.

It's about protecting it.

Edges are refined.

Premium hinges are aligned.

Every frame is inspected before leaving production.

Most people notice the silhouette first.

The details are what make it last.

Built by ENEMY

Astral was developed by the ENEMY design team, led by founders Fabián and Francisco.

Every decision—from the first sketch to the final polish—was made with the same objective: create a frame that feels current without depending on trends.

This is the first chapter of a growing archive that documents how every ENEMY release comes to life.
